Connecticut River Raft Race
The Connecticut River Raft Race is an interesting event. People build their own rafts and float them down the Connecticut river. There are different classes, including American (the competitive class and Todd's personal favorite) and Cruising (these rafts usually take a more leisurely pace). Todd and many of his friends have been competing in the race for many years. Todd's first race was in 1983.
It started with Andy, Art, Brian Jones, Martin, Matt, and Tak in 1980. Their raft was not sea-worthy, but somehow they made it across the finish line in one piece. It became a tradition, word spread and at their peak the friends had five rafts in the river.
Here are the rafts the friends have had:
- Mianus
- Intrepid
- Overkill
- Flycatcher
- Millenium Buzzard
- Agony of the Fleet
- Drinkasaurus Becks
- Chickasaurus Becks
- Triceratops
Soon after the first year, Andy decided to make some t-shirts for the crew. Over the years Chris, Art and Todd have also made them. For the last few years, Todd has done it. He designs it on the computer and prints it out on a transparency film, which he then transfer to a screen. He has gotten good over the years, with multiple colors and correct spelling most of the time.
Through the Years
Take a trip down memory lane and read about the adventures on the river from year to year. Some years have pictures and some don't. This is a work in progress. If anyone has something to add or a correction that needs to be made, please don't hesitate to contact me
